Testimonials

The sessions with Deborah Garber, my health coach, opened a new world to me, a world in which I learned to focus on myself, look after myself and pay attention to my challenges and needs, especially during this particularly difficult and stressful year (2020). Deborah is able to raise my self-awareness and provide me with the practical tools to deal with those less-than-perfect habits that have tripped me up each time I tried to bring about the sought-after change.  Deborah listens actively, ensures that our sessions are focused, matter of fact and enriching. Most importantly, the meetings with her give me genuine motivation to create change in my life. I warmly recommend her to any person who feels a desire to change or need of support. You will not regret it. It is like winning the lottery.

Working with Deborah during the Melbourne COVID-19 lockdown lifted me out of a place of helplessness and inertia and instead, Winter 2020 has seen me realise health and life goals which had eluded me for several years. Deborah has deep and broad knowledge of health matters as well as instinctive understanding of the complexities of human beings. Our weekly sessions were structured and targeted with information being exchanged in a way that was entirely organic. Every week I have learned something important and throughout I have felt respected and understood and the results are a testament to the effectiveness of the program; I am 60 years old and I am in complete control of my overeating for the first time in my life; I have taken 12 kilos off in less than three months and in addition, I am already several constructive steps into processes which will introduce desired change in other aspects of my life and I am feeling very positive and supported!  My experience has totally convinced me of the benefits of working with a health coach like Deborah. I give her my wholehearted recommendation.

I did a series of coaching sessions with Deborah and I've come out with such clarity and motivation. We discussed and worked on areas involving exercise consistency/habit forming, career clarity, improving sleep hygiene, and self-expression. It was all done with such ease and grace from Deborah, she made it a completely safe place to explore and share. Through her support and guidance I've found a new sense of confidence and self-assurance. Thank you so much Deborah!

Cooking with Deborah

In a recent conversation with my long-time friend Deborah it became clear that our attitudes towards cooking diametrically opposed. For Deborah it comes easily, she finds it a relaxing & enjoyable activity. I, on the other hand, feel like a fish out of water in the kitchen. Deborah, convinced that this can be changed & happy to help bring about this change first wanted to understand what is it about cooking that I don’t like, so we tried to narrow it down & what we came up with is: lack of knowledge emanating from little experience resulting in a complete lack of confidence which leads to stress. I told Deborah that I don’t enjoy cooking & find it amazing that some people absolutely love it.

When Deborah suggested that we do it together, I jumped at the opportunity & the fact that she is in Melbourne & I am in Hong Kong is not a problem in this day & age. A couple of days before the “experiment” we decided on the recipe. On the designated day I was ready with all the ingredients & using an iPad & a mobile phone we started, she in her kitchen in Melbourne & I in mine in Hong Kong.

All my fears of not doing things right went out the window as Deborah showed me what to do & how to do it more efficiently. She could see what I was doing & was able to correct my hopeless knife skills, made it clear that there is no need for certain processes, no need for panic & that the whole thing is actually not rocket science, she has even managed to convince me that a few deviations from the original recipe are unlikely to result in a global catastrophe.

The session was great fun as Deborah’s approach to cooking is (unlike mine) easy going, natural & intuitive, she clearly knows what she is doing & derives pleasure from the process, a pleasure she is very able to pass on. Moreover, Deborah is knowledgeable about food & nutrition & can explain the benefits or draw backs of different foods but she has a very open minded attitude towards healthy eating, that too came across during our session. She has the patience required & never once made me feel like I’m a lost cause in the kitchen, on the contrary, she’s encouraging & convinced that anyone can overcome their dislike of cooking, in my case she has already in one session made me more comfortable, less apprehensive & I am very much looking forward to our next session which we have already scheduled.

If you are a reluctant cook try an online cooking session with Deborah, it’s a fantastic experience, you may be in your kitchen but she’s there “by your side” throughout the process; I have no doubt that you too will find the session very beneficial & reassuring & you can then look forward to the result - a fantastic meal that you can make yourself many times happily ever after.
