Do You Need a High Power Blender?
If you want to be healthy and have fun in the kitchen, look no further than this modern creation! Blenders have been around for a very long time, but this workhorse is no ordinary blender…adjectives that come to mind are superb, amazing, mind-blowing and nothing short of miraculous.
Why am I in love with my super blender?
Whereas normal blenders can blend soft ingredients, the super blender has the power to pulverise vegetables and fruits into a creamy smooth liquid - hence the term ‘smoothie’, turn ice into snow, grind coffee beans, puree nuts into milk or nut butters, make silky mayonnaise and dips, and mill grains. You can even “cook” soup in the super blender, albeit not to the taste level of soup lovingly cooked in a pot.
Moreover, super blenders are super-fast and timesaving. You do not need to peel and chop up your ingredients into small pieces. They will be pureed, chopped or ground in only seconds. I chuck in lemon chunks with their rind, strawberries with their green leaves, frozen fruit, collagen powder and many more ingredients that get incorporated into a silky smooth liquid for my daily smoothie. If you are in a rush in the mornings or do not like a big breakfast, take 5 minutes - chuck in all your healthy ingredients, pour into a purpose made screw top bottle, and away you go. Clean your blender with a drop or two of detergent in water and blend for 30-60 seconds on high. Bob’s your uncle. Job done!
Why are smoothies so awesome?
The reason is that you are able to combine the three groups of macronutrients - carbohydrates, proteins and fats - in one amazing, delicious healthy package. The formula for a good smoothie includes carbohydrates in the form of fruit and/or vegetables, protein in milk or nut milk, nuts or nut butter and seeds, and/or collagen powder if you like, and fats in nuts, coconut, MCT oil or avocado. You can make any combination of your choice. If you want it to be low carb, stick to berries and veggies, rather than the sweeter fruit. This mix ensures that you will receive all the nutrients your body needs and plenty of fiber to keep you satisfied and your blood glucose steady. Hunger is staved off, you can exercise and feel great until you are ready for lunch…
Good super blenders come with an extended warranty and are as tough as nails. I admit that the initial cost can bring tears to your eyes, especially in Australian dollars, but this machine pays dividends on your investment every time you use it. I have had mine for at least 7 years, and it is used almost daily.
I make smoothies, nut milks, nut butters, and dips. I have recently learned a fabulous way of preparing a curry base in the blender… to be shared with you very soon!
Happy blending!
